Project Description

This project started with a double-storey, late Art Deco style building that had been designed as two, separate apartments – one above the other. The owners wanted to convert it into a single, large family home to accommodate their blended family. The Art Deco styling remains and has been further enhanced throughout, particularly in the architectural detailing and the steel-framed windows. A new stair was installed with handcrafted balustrade, to connect the ground and first floor levels. The master bedroom suite, study and main living and dining areas make up the ground floor level – along with a courtyard accessed directly from the living and dining areas. The remaining bedrooms, two additional family bathrooms and a 26 square metre outdoor terrace complete the first floor level. Some of the key design features of this renovation are the 660-bottle, conditioned wine cellar – which has been integrated as a talking point into the dining room. The dining room also features a gas fireplace with a glass back so that it can be seen from the courtyard outside.
